In September 2014, we wrote an email to the DLO of Sunderland AFC, with our concept of providing sensory view
ing facilities. After a huge amount of persuasion, research, meetings, collecting just under 3,000 signatures targeted towards the special schools and colleges in the area and liaising with staff from Sunningdale School in Sunderland and the Sunderland Autism Outreach Team, on 15th August 2015, SAFC opened their doors to The Nathan Shippey Sensory Room – the first sensory room where you can watch a match live.
We would like to thank all of the staff at SAFC for their attention, understanding and willingness to provide this facility, it has been a much welcome addition to the stadium and there have been many happy faces, children and adults in there since!
we are now aiming to push our campaign throughout the Premier league, lower leagues and other sports, having had a great deal of interest, we can now say that each Premier League club have been contacted.
